Angie Craig and Deborah Ross, House Democrats, will not attend important debt ceiling vote.
Two House Democrats Forced to Miss Crucial Debt Ceiling Vote Due to Health Troubles
Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) and Rep. Deborah Ross (D-NC) announced on Twitter that they could not vote this week because of needed surgery to repair a dislocated ankle and a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, respectively. Republicans ended proxy voting earlier this year, leaving them unable to vote.
Debt Limit Deal: Where It Stands and What Is Still to Come
Unfortunately, two House Democrats will be unable to vote on the crucial debt ceiling vote due to health issues. Rep. Ross announced on Twitter that she tested positive for COVID-19 and will be unable to vote since proxy voting ended. Despite her disappointment, she supports the bipartisan agreement that President Biden has negotiated to prevent a catastrophic default.
Meanwhile, Rep. Craig suffered a dislocated ankle while doing yard work at home in Minnesota. She is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair the ankle on Thursday and has been advised by her physician not to fly in advance of the surgery or immediately after. As a result, she will miss votes in Congress this week related to the Bipartisan Budget Agreement.
The absence of these representatives could pose a problem, as some Democrats and Republicans have expressed plans to vote against the bill. Ross and Craig expressed plans to vote in favor of the bill if they were present.
We wish both representatives a speedy recovery and hope to see them back in Congress soon.
