House GOP calls for removal of Rep. Ilhan Omar

House Republicans seek to oust Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), a member of the so-called “Squad.”
A new amendment proposed by a number of GOP House members called for Omar’s removal from her committee assignments “in light of conduct she has exhibited.”
The amendment was backed by a number of Republican representatives, which included Brian Babin (R-Texas), Jody Hice (R-Ga.) and Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.). These representatives cited the Minnesota lawmaker’s anti-semitic comments made back in 2019, which received massive backlash from both sides of the aisle.

Omar’s remarks appeared to question American citizens’ loyalty to the U.S. based solely on their religious views. Republican representatives argued her comments are grounds for dismissal.
Meanwhile, Democrats called for the same action to be taken against GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) over comments she’s made in the past.
“The things that she has allegedly said are years old and yet she was still elected and the Democrats seeded her knowing that all these things were there,” Hice said. “At the same time, we have multiple Democrats who have said horrendous things while being members of Congress and not a thing has been done to correct them or to punish them in any manner. It is totally unjust what they are trying to do to Marjorie Greene and whether you agree or disagree with her comments, the way she is being treated is so hypocritical by the Democrats.”
Rep. @mtgreenee addresses the charges against her head-on and makes her case that a weak GOP—not the Left’s caricature of her as an extremist kook—is the real problem.

Congressional Democrats have also criticized Greene for her more recent actions. They are now aiming to permanently remove her from the Education and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee.

Greene called the moves against her a “smear campaign” and has repeatedly said she will not back down.
