The Republican leadership of the House of Representatives pushed aside concern regarding the GOP’s “small majority.”

Republicans currently hold a 220-215 majority over Democrats in the House despite a net loss of one House seat in the 2024 elections.

While appearing alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-MI) on Hannity, Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) contended Republicans will deliver results regardless of the size of their majority.

“Everybody wants to focus on the fact that it’s a small majority. Sean, it’s a majority. We have the majority,” Emmer said. “And what I want to point out is that with 222, 221, and many times during the last Congress with less than that because members have lives outside of here and they have to deal with illnesses and different things, we did it with less numbers.”

“The beauty of the Republican Party and these members, these men and women who have been sent here, they are fighting for their districts and it sometimes it doesn’t look pretty because they’re going to have disagreements, etc.,” he continued. “I’m here to tell you under Mike’s leadership, and this whole group, we are going to get the job done at the end of the day. Failure is not an option.”

Scalise also noted that the agenda of Republicans in Congress is “in sync” with that of President Donald Trump, a marked difference from 2017 at the beginning of Trump’s first term.

“We have an opportunity that you don’t get often. We’ve got to make this work,” Scalise said. “We are all talking about lowering energy costs, getting rules and regulations under control, securing America’s border, making sure we don’t have a tax increase so we can get our economy moving again and lower inflation. Those are all things we talked about during the campaign. President Trump talked about them. We talked about them. There is no daylight between us and President Trump.”

Republicans in the House and Senate are currently divided on whether to pass only one reconciliation bill or instead focus on two — a border and energy bill and then a second bill focusing on taxes. Trump has said he would be open to the GOP passing two bills.

McClain acknowledged the difference facing members of Congress, noting that the House prefers one bill. However, she affirmed that results would be reached.

“We have to deliver for the American people. They sent us a mandate, as Speaker Johnson said, and it’s our job to fulfill that mandate, and we will fulfill that mandate,” McClain said. “We care about getting results. That is more important than anything.”

Johnson added that “something has changed in Washington,” touting the positive meeting he shared with Trump and fellow Republican leaders earlier on Tuesday.

“We talked about the importance of unity and how we are all energized to get this agenda done. The president is excited. We can really see and feel the energy that the American people feel,” Johnson said. “Something has changed in Washington and we had to bring America back. President Trump represents that. He is a symbol of that to people around the country. A strong America again.”
