House GOP Probes Why HHS Allegedly Misallocated Billions in Pandemic Cash into “Highly Profitable Hospitals”

House Republicans have launched an investigation into the alleged funneling of pandemic relief funds by HHS towards wealthy hospitals in already financially-secure areas while rural hospitals struggle to provide quality-care while constantly facing bankruptcy.
The Republicans are accusing HHS of providing billions of dollars to profitable hospitals in areas which did not require the relief funds while low-income and rural hospitals that needed them received minimal help.
The lawmakers have demanded all documents and communications related to HHS’s decision-making process on which hospitals received taxpayer dollars. They also cited reports that nearly $17 billion of pandemic relief funds went to hospitals with reported profits of $53 billion-plus, while $35 billion went to hospitals that reported a loss of almost $130 billion.
