House Majority Leader Steve Scalise Announces Cancer Diagnosis After ‘A Few Days of Not Feeling Like Myself’
Rep. Steve Scalise, the No. 2-ranking House Republican, revealed on Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with a form of blood cancer known as multiple myeloma and is currently undergoing treatment.
Despite his diagnosis, Scalise, 57, reassured the public that he will continue to serve in the House.
Describing the cancer as “very treatable,” Scalise expressed gratitude that it was detected early.

He sustained a gunshot wound to the hip and endured extensive hospitalizations, multiple surgeries, and painful rehabilitation.
The congressman explained that the cancer diagnosis came after he had been feeling unwell for the past week. Blood tests revealed irregularities, leading to further screening and the subsequent diagnosis of multiple myeloma.
“I have now begun treatment, which will continue for the next several months,” Scalise stated. “I expect to work through this period and intend to return to Washington, continuing my work as Majority Leader and serving the people of Louisiana’s First Congressional District.”

The congressman expressed his gratitude towards his medical team and emphasized his determination to confront this challenge with the same strength and energy he has displayed in the face of past obstacles.
