House Minority Leader Accuses ‘Extreme MAGA Republicans’ of ‘Hiding’ Stance on Gun Control
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries accused extreme MAGA house Republicans of concealing their position on gun control. He challenged them to bring related legislation to the House floor. Jeffries said that the gun violence epidemic is unacceptable, unconscionable, and un-American. He emphasized that children being slaughtered in schools should not be a way of life in the United States of America. The Democrat believes that weapons of war, which are not used to hunt deer but are used to hunt human beings and slaughter innocent children, do not belong in communities across the country. Jeffries called on Republicans to air their views in front of the American people and not hide them.
Nashville Shooting
Jeffries’ remarks come three days after a mass shooting at The Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school in Nashville, which led to the death of six people, including three children. Local law enforcement identified 28-year-old Audrey Hale, a woman who identified as a transgender male, as the shooter.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was candid about her views on the shooting and the role of guns in school safety. Responding to comments from Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), Greene said good guys with guns killed Hale. Greene believes that schools need the same protection as the presidency or celebrities.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) believes that legislation alone cannot solve gun violence. He emphasized the need for the country to come together. Law enforcement should not ignore warnings that an individual might pose a danger, as in some past cases.
