Investigators determined that Candace Craig had murdered her mother on May 23, and the following day, her daughter Salia Hardy assisted in attempting to dispose of the remains.
According to Prince George’s County Assistant State’s Attorney Jessica Garth, the mother and daughter “dismembered the body, I believe using a chain saw, and then attempted to dispose of the parts of the body using fire on a grill and in a bonfire,” as reported by WTOP-TV.
State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy expressed her horror at the crime, stating, “To say it’s disturbing is an understatement. It’s horrifying.”
Maj. David Blazer, commander of the police department’s major crimes division, assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted and that both suspects would be held accountable for their cruel and criminal behavior.
According to charging documents quoted by WTOP, Margaret Craig had accused her daughter Candace of credit card fraud, which led to a fatal argument between them.
Candace Craig has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, while Salia Hardy has been charged with accessory after the fact.
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact detectives at 301-516-2512.
