Biden Attorney’s Statements on Classified Documents Contradict, House Oversight Discovers.
House Committee Investigates Mishandling of Classified Documents at Penn Biden Center
Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability is intensifying the investigation into the alleged mishandling of classified documents by President Joe Biden during his time as vice president. The committee has discovered discrepancies in the public statements made by President Biden’s lawyer regarding the classified documents that were kept at the Penn Biden Center.
According to the committee, the documents in question were stored in an “unsecured closet at the Biden Penn Center.” In January, President Biden’s attorney Bob Bauer claimed that a small number of classified documents from the Obama administration were unexpectedly found at the center. This issue gained attention after the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate to retrieve classified documents.

Chairman Comer now reveals that they have obtained information suggesting that President Biden’s documents were actually discovered in 2021. Multiple White House staffers were sent to assess and retrieve boxes of documents.
“The Committee has obtained information that contradicts important details from the White House’s and President Biden’s personal attorney’s statements about the discovery of documents at Penn Biden Center, including the location and security of the classified documents,” stated Chairman Comer.
According to the committee, President Biden utilized significant federal resources, including five White House employees and a Department of Defense employee, to access and secure items at the Penn Biden Center. White House Counsel Dana Remus and other staff members played key roles in coordinating the handling of the boxes containing classified materials.
Chairman Comer accuses President Biden of providing incomplete and misleading information, omitting months of communications and coordination from their investigations. He questions why so many White House staffers were involved in retrieving boxes that were believed to contain only personal documents.
White House Staffers Involved
Annie Tomasini, senior adviser and assistant to President Biden, was sent to take inventory at the Penn Biden Center on March 18, 2021. White House Counsel Remus contacted Kathy Chung, a Department of Defense official at the time, to retrieve documents on May 24, 2022. Ms. Chung fulfilled this request on June 28, 2022.
Chairman Comer highlights that Ms. Remus contacted Ms. Chung through her private email, potentially evading Freedom of Information Act disclosures.
On Oct. 12, 2022, Ashley Williams, special assistant to the president, and Pat Moore, the president’s personal attorney, went to Penn Biden Center to further assess the boxes. The next day, Ms. Williams returned to retrieve a few of the boxes. Mr. Bauer, the president’s personal attorney, texted Ms. Chung to inform her that Mr. Moore had started sorting through the boxes.
Chairman Comer did not disclose how the committee obtained this information, but some of it was revealed during an interview with Ms. Chung. None of these actions were mentioned in President Biden’s official statements regarding the timeline of retaining classified documents.
Furthermore, the committee discovered that Mr. Moore had scheduled a FedEx pickup at Penn Biden Center on Nov. 2, 2022, the same day the National Archives and Records Administration was supposedly contacted to archive the documents. This raises concerns about potential removal of boxes before the arrival of NARA.
Chairman Comer argues that the White House’s involvement and concern in coordinating the retrieval and examination of the boxes indicate that they were not merely personal items of President Biden’s. The committee is requesting communications and transcribed interviews with the named White House staffers to resolve the discrepancies.
Ms. Remus has declined an interview with the committee, redirecting all questions to the White House. Chairman Comer also highlights security issues, stating that the White House’s claims about the locked closet where the boxes were found contradict statements from Penn Biden Center employees. The committee is determined to uncover the truth and is seeking further evidence to clarify the situation.
What are the implications of the involvement of other White House staff members in the mishandling of classified documents?

Additionally, the committee has also obtained emails and other forms of communication that reveal the involvement of other White House staff members. These individuals include Deputy White House Counsel Christopher Grahham and Senior Policy Advisor Michael Kikukawa. The committee is questioning the extent of their involvement and the reasons behind their actions.
Chairman Comer emphasizes that the mishandling of classified documents is a serious offense and raises concerns about the security and integrity of our government. He states, “It is deeply troubling that the current President of the United States may have mishandled classified materials and provided misleading information to the American people.”
The investigation by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability is ongoing, and Chairman Comer has requested additional documents, including any communications related to the discovery and retrieval of the classified documents from the Penn Biden Center. The committee intends to thoroughly examine the actions of President Biden and his staff and determine whether any laws or protocols were violated.
President Biden and his administration have not yet responded publicly to the intensifying investigation. The White House Press Secretary has stated that they are aware of the committee’s request for additional documents and will cooperate fully with the investigation.
This investigation into the mishandling of classified documents by President Biden, particularly during his time as vice president, has significant implications for national security and the transparency of our government. It is essential for the truth to be uncovered and for appropriate actions to be taken to ensure accountability and the proper handling of classified information in the future.
