House Oversight issues sweeping records request to Secret Service ahead of hearing – Washington Examiner
The House Oversight Committee has issued a sweeping records request to the Secret Service ahead of a hearing regarding the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Chairman James Comer and other Republican members have asked Director Kimberly Cheatle for a wide range of materials related to the incident. The request comes as part of preparations for a planned hearing next week. In the request, the committee asked for all documents and communications related to threats against former President Trump, any security assessments conducted prior to the incident, and information on the suspect who attempted to assassinate him. They also requested details on the Secret Service’s response to the incident and any changes in security protocols made as a result.
Chairman Comer stated, “It is crucial that we fully understand what happened during this attempted assassination and what measures are being taken to prevent future attacks on our elected officials. The Secret Service plays a critical role in protecting the President and other high-ranking officials, and we must ensure they have the resources and support they need to carry out their important mission.”
The committee’s hearing is set to take place next week, where Director Cheatle is expected to testify and provide additional information on the incident. The Secret Service has confirmed receipt of the records request and stated they will work to provide the requested materials in a timely manner.

The House Oversight Committee asked the Secret Service on Monday to provide a wide range of material related to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump ahead of a planned hearing next week.
Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and other Republican members wrote a letter to Director Kimberly Cheatle asking her for a list of law enforcement officers working at the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally, where a gunman opened fire over the weekend, killing one, critically injuring two, and causing a minor injury to Trump.
The lawmakers also asked Cheatle for any audio and video recordings from the event that were in Secret Service’s possession, as well as all internal documents and communications the agency had from the event.
Cheatle is set to appear before the committee for a hearing on July 22, according to an aide.
