House approves bill to combat Hamas funding during Israel conflict.

The ‍House Takes Action‌ Against Hamas and Iran in Ongoing Israel-Hamas Conflict

The House of Representatives recently passed crucial measures aimed at targeting the terrorist group Hamas and its supporter, Iran. As the Israel-Hamas conflict reaches its ‍one-month mark, these actions are a significant step forward.

One of the measures, known as the Hamas International Financing Prevention Act, was introduced by Rep. ‍Brian Mast (R-Fla.) and passed with an overwhelming ⁢majority of 363-46. Surprisingly, one Republican joined 45 ‍Democrats in voting against it.

This act seeks⁢ to impose sanctions on foreign states and ‌individuals who provide support to‍ Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), both designated as ⁤terrorist organizations ‍by the United States.

To learn more about⁣ the bill, you can read it here. If enacted, this bill would require the‌ president to⁢ impose sanctions on foreign individuals ⁣and states supporting Hamas within 180 days.

The sanctions imposed‍ by this bill ‌would remain in effect for seven ‍years or until the president certifies that⁣ Hamas, PIJ, or⁤ their affiliates are no longer subject to sanctions.

Additionally, foreign states providing⁣ support‌ to Hamas⁤ would be ineligible for U.S.⁣ assistance for at least one year.

Furthermore, the bill mandates that the president submit ⁤a ⁣report to Congress assessing the activities and assets of ‍Hamas, PIJ, and their affiliates, as ⁢well as a list of states providing specific types of support to Hamas. This report must be submitted within ⁢90 days ⁤of the bill’s enactment and every 180‌ days thereafter.

Another significant resolution, introduced by ‍House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman ⁤Michael McCaul (R-Texas), passed with⁤ a vote of 354-53. Surprisingly, 50 Democrats and three Republicans voted against it.

The resolution clearly states that the United ⁢States rejects the idea of a nuclear Islamic Republic of‍ Iran and emphasizes that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear‍ weapon under any circumstances. It also supports the freedom⁤ of action of partners and allies, including Israel, to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The resolution highlights the fact that Iran currently possesses ⁢dangerous nuclear knowledge and ⁤warns⁤ that its ongoing⁣ nuclear escalation poses a serious threat to the United States, its partners, ⁣and allies, particularly ⁣Israel.

The resolution further points out that Iran has enriched uranium to 60 percent purity, a significant development that occurred after an attack on one of Iran’s nuclear facilities ⁢in 2021. According to⁣ the International Atomic Energy Agency,⁣ purity refers to‌ the ratio of desired radionuclide radioactivity to the total radioactivity of the source, expressed as ⁣a ⁢percentage.

Moreover, the resolution reveals that Iran has enriched ⁣uranium to 90 percent, which is considered weapons-grade material.

Quoting IAEA General Rafael⁢ Grossi and ‍former Joint ‌Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley, the resolution states that Iran has accumulated enough nuclear material for several nuclear weapons and ⁣could produce ‍fissile material for a ‍nuclear weapon in a matter ‌of weeks.

The resolution also highlights the discovery of uranium particles enriched to‍ 83.7 percent at Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility in January 2023.

It concludes by sounding the alarm about Iran’s nuclear escalation, emphasizing the threat it ⁢poses to the United States, its partners, and allies, including Israel. The resolution stresses that international ‌complacency towards Iran’s illicit nuclear program jeopardizes the global nonproliferation regime.

What is the purpose of the resolution passed ⁢by the House of‍ Representatives regarding Hamas and Israel?

Le (R-Texas), passed with a⁣ vote of 390-31. ⁤The resolution condemns Hamas for its rocket attacks against Israel and reaffirms‍ the United States’ steadfast⁢ support ⁢for Israel’s right to defend itself. It also calls on the Biden administration ⁣to vigorously enforce existing laws and sanctions against nations, groups, and individuals that provide support to Hamas and other terrorist organizations in the region. Additionally, the resolution urges the administration to ‍work with international partners and allies to prevent Iran from providing financial,⁢ military, and technological support to Hamas and other extremist groups.

These‍ actions ⁤by the House of Representatives demonstrate a strong ⁢commitment‌ to⁢ combating terrorism and holding those who support it accountable. By imposing sanctions on foreign states and individuals that support Hamas, the United States is sending‌ a clear⁤ message that it will not tolerate the financing of terrorism. This not only weakens Hamas’s capabilities but‍ also serves as a deterrent to ⁢other nations ⁣and groups considering providing assistance to terrorists.

The ongoing Israel-Hamas⁢ conflict has resulted in tragic loss of life and significant damage to infrastructure in Israel and the Gaza Strip. It is‍ crucial for the international community to stand with Israel and support its right to defend itself against terrorist attacks. By taking action against Hamas and its enablers, the House ⁣of‌ Representatives is actively working to ensure the safety and security of⁣ Israel and its people.
