House Republican introduces measure to put Trump’s face on $100 bill – Washington Examiner

Texas Congressman Brandon Gill has⁢ proposed legislation, referred to as the Golden age Act, which seeks to feature President Donald Trump on the⁤ $100 bill, replacing Benjamin Franklin. Co-sponsored by Rep. Troy Nehls, the bill aims for ⁣all $100 bills printed after December 31, 2028, to ⁣showcase Trump’s image. ⁣Gill argues ‍that this move would honor Trump’s contributions to ⁢the country, including ‍his efforts in securing borders and advancing U.S. interests.

The proposal has generated significant backlash online, even among conservative circles, with critics ⁢labeling it as a publicity stunt rather than a meaningful legislative effort.Several‌ others, including Rep. Joe Wilson, are also advocating for similar measures, such as a $250 bill‌ featuring Trump, but these ideas have been received with⁤ skepticism.

Additionally, U.S.law currently prohibits living ⁢individuals from being depicted on ⁢currency, casting doubt on the feasibility of the proposal. The last change ⁣to dollar bill portraits occurred in 1929, and ⁣previous efforts to replace Andrew Jackson with Harriet Tubman have stalled.

House Republican introduces measure to put Trump’s face on $100 bill

Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) has introduced legislation to put President Donald Trump’s face on the $100 bill.

Gill’s bill is the latest of many Republican efforts to enshrine Trump’s legacy in some way. The Texas congressman’s legislation is being co-sponsored by Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX). The Golden Age Act would require all $100 bills printed after Dec. 31, 2028, to feature Trump’s face on the front side, replacing founding father Benjamin Franklin.

“President Trump could be enjoying his golden years golfing and spending time with his family. Instead, he took a bullet for this country and is now working overtime to secure our border, fix our uneven trade relationship with the rest of the world, make America energy independent again, and put America first by ending useless foreign aid,” Gill said in a statement

“There has been no one who has done more to bring America into the golden age than President Trump. Featuring him on the $100 bill is a small way to honor all he will accomplish these next four years,” he added.

The bill would require Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to submit a $100 bill design featuring Trump by Dec. 31, 2026.

Online sentiment was mostly negative, even from conservatives. Gill’s X post announcing the move drew a flood of negative reactions.

“I’d love for Trump to be on a dollar one day, but now is the time for Congress to enact his agenda. Not introducing some cartoonish, own the libs bills that will go nowhere, and that probably will hurt the viability of Trump appearing on currency one day,” conservative content creator Red Eagle Politics said in a post on X.

The introduction of a bill last week by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) to put Trump’s face on a new $250 bill was met with similarly negative reactions.

“Grateful to announce that I am drafting legislation to direct the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a $250 bill featuring Donald J. Trump. Bidenflation has destroyed the economy forcing American families to carry more cash. Most valuable bill for most valuable President!” Wilson announced.

The last time a dollar bill portrait was changed was in 1929, when President Grover Cleveland’s face was changed for that of Andrew Jackson. Jackson’s inclusion has faced some controversy, with an effort to replace his face with that of Harriet Tubman losing steam during the Biden administration.

Aside from expected backlash, U.S. law prohibits living people from being depicted on currency.
