House Republicans Tout Record During First 100 Days
On April 17, House Republican leaders demonstrated their meaning discipline and used the decision to resume the U.S. Capitol as a benchmark for the first 100 years of the 118th Congress.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer( R-Minn.) stated in a press conference with numerous GOP colleagues,” In our first 100 days, House Republicans not only reopened the House — as our speaker spoke about— the People’s’s House, by the way, not Pelosi.— but also passed an amendment set of rules to enact an open, member-driven legislative process.”
Emmer was making reference to a proposal put forth by 20 House Republican dissidents who initially opposed Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s’s election as Speaker of the House( R-California ).
McCarthy remarked at the push event,” We had a perfect open pattern for the first time in seven year.”
Sometimes though we have divided government, more taxes have been signed into law in this Congress than in the previous one, he told reporters.
McCarthy also spoke of the Senate that Chuck Schumer ( D – N ) was in charge of. Y. ) compared to the room he leads, as” wasteful.”
Steve Scalise, the leader of the House Majority ( R – La. ) reminded Americans that President Joe Biden eventually signed a resolution to overturn the contentious city government of Washington, D.C. ‘ s crime bill. That signaled a change of heart from his earlier position against the GOP-led work.
According to Scalise,” If he [ Biden ] comes out against a bill, [ that ] means there’s’s pretty good chance that [ he ] he actually might end up signing it into law.”
Members already emphasized their capacity for cross-party cooperation in the current House, which contrasts with the majority of 2023 reporting on D.C. politicians.
McCarthy remarked that more than 80 % of the expenses passed so far have been republican, saying that” House Republicans are accomplishing a lot in an effective, partisan manner.”
Rep. Elise Stefanik( R – N ) stated that” every member of this conference is laser-focused on listening to the American people, keeping our promises, and delivering those results.” Y. who is in charge of the House Republican Conference.
The Republicans who spoke on April 17 commonly referred to McCarthy’s’s” Commitment to America” in addition to highlighting the Capitol opening, a significant and symbolic action that occurred almost two years after the events of January 6, 2021.
China, Energy, COVID, and Parental Rights
Emmer emphasized the current Congress’s’s establishment of a select committee on the Chinese Communist Party ( CCP ) and the legislation that would have benefited the CCP by forbidding the sale of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China.
Rep. Russel Fry( R-S. C. ), the freshman class president of the House, criticized Biden for his” non-existent approach to a hostile China” while claiming that the body was looking into financial ties between the family and CCP-linked individuals.
Scalise pushed Schumer to take up the power expenses, H. R. 1, which was signed by the House Republicans.
Republicans currently control the majority in the House, marking their 100th time in power. One point is also very clear.
