GOP Introduces Bill to Boost Immigration Enforcement
House Republicans Introduce “Secure Border Act of 2023” to Combat Immigration Crisis
The crisis at the U.S.–Mexico border is one of the gravest threats to national security in American history. That’s why House Republicans have introduced the “Secure Border Act of 2023” to strengthen enforcement of immigration laws and combat the escalating crisis.
Key Provisions of the Bill
- Construction of a border wall between the United States and Mexico
- Deployment of new technology to the border
- Increased number of Border Patrol agents and up their pay
- End “catch-and-release” policy
- Strengthen protections for unaccompanied minors crossing the border
President Biden halted construction on the border wall, leaving materials unused along the border for over two years, costing the United States over $70 million. The GOP bill would require Biden to authorize construction on the wall and deploy new technology to the border.
Additionally, the bill seeks to end the controversial “catch-and-release” policy and strengthen protections for unaccompanied minors crossing the border. Explosive whistleblower testimony alleged that the U.S. government is acting as a crucial “middleman” for cartel child trafficking operations, putting innocent lives at tremendous risk.
House Republicans are taking action to take back control of the border from the drug cartels and protect American citizens. As Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart said in a statement on the bill, “It is long past the time to take back control of the border.”
