House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has extended House proxy voting regulations through October. On Friday, Pelosi said she had extended the proxy voting system through Oct. 1, citing concerns over a surge of the more contagious Delta variant virus cases nationwide.
Critics have blasted the move, asserting it was no longer necessary and was being used by lawmakers to avoid their legislative responsibilities. This comes after Pelosi’s previous extension came to an end Aug. 18.
Conservative lawmakers filed a suit last month against Pelosi over the proxy voting rules, but the case was later dismissed by a judge who said the court didn’t have the authority to govern House rules.
