House’s New China-Competition Committee Marks Important Step in Confronting CCP’s Threats
Commentary
A majority of Americans view the establishment by the House of Congress of a new China Committee as the first victory for the Republican Party.
Speaker of The House Kevin McCarthy. Most people fail to understand that this committee should have existed long before now.
The new committee is known as the “House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party.” The committee will be focus on the continually escalating threats from China’s ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The 118th U.S. House of Representatives voted with all Republicans and 146 Democrats to support the creation of the Select Committee. For years, Capitol Hill hasn’t seen such overwhelming bipartisan support for nearly anything.
Why is it necessary to establish a new committee specifically dealing with issues related to the CCP?
The answer to this question is clear: Americans need to take immediate action if they don’t want to see their future generations become the slaves to the CCP.
China’s economy has grown tenfold since it joined WTO in 2001. If you compare the five following aspects of the CCP to any other regimes in the past, it is clear that the CCP represents the greatest threat ever to peace and human rights in human history.
- Total Economic Power
The CCP now has the world’s second-largest economy, behind the United States, if measured by GDP. If you compare these two nations’ GDP by purchase price parity (PPP), China’s GDP(PPP) is $27.31 trillion, which is about 18.7 percent more than the United States’ $23 trillion, according to the statistics From the World Bank 2021 report. - Total Military Power
The CCP now possesses the world’s second-largest military. The 2022 Congressional Research Service report This indicates that the Chinese navy is now more powerful than the U.S. Navy when it comes to the number of battle force vessels. - Modern Technology
Thanks to U.S. corporations heavily investing in China, the CCP is rapidly catching up with the West in technology. - Total Population under Central Control
China has the world’s largest population today, with 1.4 billion people. - A History of Domestic Genocide
Research shows that as many as 450 people have been killed by the CCP. 80 million Since 1949, when China took over the country’s affairs.
In the last century, there have been two strategies used by the United States to combat communist regimes. Both strategies were successful, but both failed.
One of the most successful strategies was the cold war strategy. This effectively drove the Soviet Union to its economic collapse. Later, it led to regime change.
The China policy was the one that failed. It was based on the hope that the CCP would make political reforms in China once the population becomes more wealthy and has a greater middle-class. China joined the Word Trade Organization in 2001 thanks to the West. By 2021, total direct investment China’s direct investment in the United States was close to $120 billion. The sum of all direct investments from the West World is many hundreds of billions.
Despite the fact that the United States lost many industries and jobs to China over the past two decades of Cold War, no one bothered to ask the simple question: If the West had invested hundreds upon billions of dollars in their enemy, would the Soviet Union ever have fallen? Would it have even been possible for the Soviet Union’s political system to come up with a political reform leader like Mikhail Gorbachev?
What happened when the CCP regime became more powerful and richer?
U.S.-China Alaska summit, March 2021. Yang Jiechi, top Chinese diplomat, looked directly at Antony Blinken and said: “The United States does not have the qualification to say that it wants to speak to China from a position a position of strength.”
In 2013, the Chinese regime began building artificial islands in South China Sea. The Chinese military had occupied three of the seven man-made islands by 2022. In June 2021, Beijing’s authority officially claimed that China has full sovereignty over the Taiwan Strait.
A rapidly growing anti-US alliance is being formed on the Europe/Asian continent around the governments of China, Russia North Korea, Iran and Afghanistan. As China’s GDP is more than ten times of Russia’s, it is clear that Beijing has taken the leading role in this alliance.
The greatest threat to the stability and peace in the Indo-Pacific region has been the Chinese regime.
Previously, U.S. legislators had to deal only with China on human rights, trade and intellectual property rights issues. The threat from CCP is rapidly increasing, and the Congress members will now have to deal with a wider range of complex issues.
The U.S. House China Committee is a new tool that will prove very useful in dealing with China’s communist regime over the coming decades.
