How The RNC Can Thwart Corporate Media’s Bogus ‘Diversity’ Standards With 2024 Primary Debates

The Republican National Committee (RNC), announced last Thursday that the party would hold its first debate in the 2024 presidential election cycle. Ronna McDaniel (RNC Chair) stated that the party would be undergoing a first debate in the 2024 presidential campaign cycle. It will host its first debate This August, Milwaukee is the location of next year’s Republican National Convention. Other relevant information was not provided in the announcement. This includes details about media organizations that may sponsor the August debate, or any future ones.

The New York Times is not.S Reports from January The RNC had requested major news networks to host candidate debates. The networks had submitted their proposals in February. However, the committee for debates of the party has not provided details or a list of entities that have been selected by the RNC to broadcast the candidates.

It would be a mistake for the RNC to continue its partnership with the organizations mentioned in the January Times article. Candidates for the nation’s highest office need to be properly vetted in front of the TV spotlight. However, some might question why the RNC would accept partnerships with these organizations. “diversity” policies raise serious questions.

Race-based Quotas

Think about NBC, which was reportedly one of the networks that were included in talks with Republican officials. In July 2020, NBCUniversal News Chairman Cesar Conde Announced a goal His unit should have half its employees who are non-white and half its employees who are female. Even though it might be true that some people are better at hiring from underrepresented backgrounds, the use of arbitrary quotas in order to check diversity boxes may cause more problems than solves.

First, arguments were heard by the Supreme Court in two cases last fall regarding affirmative action in college admissions. Although a decision is unlikely to be made until June, justices will. They were willing to declare illegal the use of race-based admissions criteria

It would be highly unusual for the RNC, should the Supreme Court uphold race-based quotas, to host a presidential discussion that is sponsored by a network whose policies are in direct contradiction with such a ruling. At a minimum, the RNC should force Conde and NBCUniversal to publicly explain why they have race-based quotas in place — and why NBC takes such a narrow view of “diversity.”

Networks can’t measure political bias

Another question is from Conde’s statements Concerning the importance of measuring diversity to quantify it. NBCUniversal’s Report on diversity data impact Surveys of employees are done based on race, sex, but not ideology or party affiliation. Given Conde’s belief that it is impossible to manage ideological bias if it isn’t measured, it seems reasonable to wonder why NBC News doesn’t care about it.

NBCUniversal is not the only one in this respect. From The Times The Hearst publishing empire The News Leaders AssociationDiversity surveys in journalism are focused on race, sexuality, and gender, but do not include any consideration of political views. I was asked to review Politico’s. Diversity report So that I could check if it surveys
