Huckabee criticizes Biden’s leadership: Presidents should address people’s pain.
Former Republican Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee Slams President Biden for Neglecting Hawaii Wildfires
Former Republican Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee, didn’t hold back in his criticism of President Joe Biden for failing to visit Hawaii in the aftermath of the devastating wildfires that have claimed the lives of 106 people so far. The state’s Governor, Josh Green, has warned that the casualty count could double in the coming days as cleanup and rescue efforts continue.
Biden’s Defense Falls Flat
When questioned about his absence in Hawaii, President Biden defended himself by saying, ”I don’t want to get in the way.” However, Huckabee strongly disagreed with this reasoning, stating, “The president doesn’t get in the way when he goes to a natural disaster or any kind of disaster. In the same way that presidents and governors go to the point where people are hurting in mass.”
Huckabee emphasized the importance of showing genuine concern and support for those affected by the wildfires. He explained, “You show up for two reasons. One, because you legitimately want to put your arms around those people who are left and hurting, and show on behalf of all of the people that there is genuine concern. And the second reason, when the chief executive shows up, you know who else shows up? Everybody in the press. They keep attention focused on those most in need.”
Biden’s Excuse Falls Short
Huckabee dismissed Biden’s reasoning for not visiting Hawaii as “nonsense” and a “pathetic excuse.” He argued that Biden has been in office long enough to understand the importance of showing up in times of crisis.
Meanwhile, Biden chose to spend his weekend vacationing in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and avoided addressing questions about his plans for visiting Hawaii, simply stating, “No comment.”
White House Faces Criticism
In addition to Huckabee’s criticism, the White House has faced numerous questions about President Biden’s failure to publicly address the wildfires. White House principal deputy press secretary, Olivia Dalton, defended the president, stating that he had addressed the wildfires in public remarks last Thursday in Salt Lake City and had initiated a comprehensive government response from the beginning.
