Huh? McCarthy Says ‘A Lot Of People’ On Capitol Hill Are Liars Like George Santos
Rep. George Santos, R-NY is a world-class lie-teller. He lies to get a job in Congress. This allows him to earn a good $174,000 per year.
During the campaign, he lied on almost every point. He claimed he went to New York University and Baruch College. He also claimed that he worked for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. His grandparents escaped the Holocaust. His mother was killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center.
Wait, there’s more. He lied to the public about his charity for rescued animals and cats. He also lied about owning rental properties and about having employees die in the Pulse nightclub shooting.
But despite all those lies, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the new speaker of the House of Representatives, is not calling for Santos’ ouster.
“He will continue to serve,” McCarthy spoke of Santos.
McCarthy replied to reporters when Santos admitted that he had fabricated a large portion of his resume. “So did a lot of people here in the Senate and others.”
There you have it. According to the speaker, “a lot” Many Capitol Hill people have inflated their resumes to get jobs. McCarthy did not call for Santos’ resignation, but he said that Santos would have to face the music eventually.
“I try to stick by the Constitution. The voters elected him to serve. If there is a concern, and he has to go through the Ethics [Committee], let him move through that,” McCarthy stated.
And the speaker said that Santos might just be able to serve out his term. “It’s the voters who made that decision. He has to answer to the voters and the voters to make another decision in two years,” McCarthy stated.
“He is going to have to build the trust here and he’s going to have the opportunity to try to do that,” He stated.
Santos admitted to lying about his past but said “I am not a criminal.”
“This [controversy] will not deter me from having good legislative success. I will be effective. I will be good,” He Submitted The New York Post. “My sins here are embellishing my resume. I’m sorry.”
“I didn’t graduate from any institution of higher learning. I’m embarrassed and sorry for having embellished my resume,” He stated. “I own up to that … We do stupid things in life.”
Santos, who was elected on November 8th to represent Long Island’s and Queens-based 3rd District in Congress, made a hilarious defense for his claim to being Jewish.
“I never claimed to be Jewish,” Santos said. “I am Catholic. I declared Catholic after I learned that my maternal grandparents were Jewish. ‘Jew-ish.’”
In that interview, Santos defiantly dismissed an allegation that he had a criminal charge filed against him in Brazil. “I am not a criminal here — not here or in Brazil or any jurisdiction in the world,” Santos said. “Absolutely not. That didn’t happen.”
CNN, however, will come back later reported that Santos admitted to stealing a man’s checkbook to buy clothing and shoes in Brazil in 2008. According to the network, Santos will be re-indicated by Brazilian law enforcement officials.
Santos says he won’t resign, even after being caught deceiving the people who put him in office.
“I was elected to serve the people of #NY03 not the party & politicians, I remain committed to doing that and regret to hear that local officials refuse to work with my office to deliver results to keep our community safe and lower the cost of living,” He wrote it on Twitter. “I will NOT resign!”
I was elected to serve my people. #NY03 Not the party or politicians. I am still committed to doing so and regret to learn that some local officials are refusing to work with me to produce results that will keep our community safer and lower the cost per capita.
I will NOT resign

It may not be his decision to remain in office. A number of New York GOP lawmakers have called for him to resign. Nearly four New York House Republicans believe Santos should resign shortly after Nassau County GOP officials called for it Wednesday.
“George Santos’ campaign last year was a campaign of deceit, lies and fabrication,” Joe Cairo, chairman of the county GOP, spoke at a news conference together with other officials.
Another newcomer to Congress, Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-NY), said in a statement Wednesday that he supports Cairo’s call for Santos to resign.
“It’s clear that he cannot be an effective representative and it would be in the best interest of the taxpayers to have new leadership,” Langworthy said. “I will continue working with our local elected officials to ensure that trust and dignity are restored to the 3rd Congressional District.”
