Many theaters rush to include ‘Sound of Freedom’ as studio addresses suppression claims.

Makers of “Sound of Freedom” Respond to High Demand and Theater Suppression Rumors

The surprise independent hit film “Sound of Freedom” is facing a unique problem that every studio dreams of: overwhelming demand. More people want to see the movie than there are theaters showing it.

In a news release circulated by Angel Studios on Thursday, it was announced that chains are rushing to address this issue by adding new theater rooms and show times. Over 450 new theaters will be adding the movie to this weekend’s lineup.

Additionally, the studio has come to the defense of AMC Theaters against accusations of conspiring to sabotage showings of the drama.

“We understand there are rumors — predominantly in social media — that AMC theaters have made it difficult for fans to see SOUND of FREEDOM in local AMC theaters, and we want to make it clear these rumors are not accurate,” said Brandon Purdie, Head of Angel Theatrical Distribution.

“AMC has been an outstanding partner for Angel Studios. In fact, as a result of the movie’s performance and consumer demand, AMC has agreed to add additional screens for SOUND OF FREEDOM this weekend.”

Purdie urged fans to support AMC and other theatrical partners, while also asking moviegoers to disregard the rumors and treat theater staff with kindness.

Have you seen “Sound of Freedom” yet?

“We have the best movie fans in the business. Let’s continue to show theaters the love that Angel supporters are known for,” Purdie concluded.

“Sound of Freedom” is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, a former U.S. Homeland Security agent who left his job to rescue children from human traffickers.

Earlier this week, rumors circulated that theaters were interfering with screenings of the movie. Forbes reported that theories of sabotage by AMC Theaters had gone viral on right-wing social media, although the company denies any interference.

Despite attempts by left-leaning media outlets to discredit the film and its subjects, “Sound of Freedom” has been a tremendous success. It has earned nearly $50 million to date and sold almost 4.5 million tickets, including through a “pay it forward” campaign that allows people to purchase additional tickets for those who cannot afford to see it.
