Hunter Biden and his legal team address felony charges
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, and his legal team plan to challenge the multiple felony convictions he received this week in federal court. A jury found Hunter Biden guilty on all three charges: lying to a federally licensed firearms dealer, falsifying information on a federal firearms background check form, and possessing a firearm illegally obtained. He faces a potential 25-year prison sentence and fines totaling $750,000. His lawyer, Abbe Lowell, expressed disappointment with the verdict but showed respect for the jury process and confirmed their intent to vigorously pursue all available legal options. Hunter himself expressed gratitude for the support from his partner Melissa, family, friends, and community, emphasizing his focus on recovery through grace. Despite the verdict, President Biden has stated he would accept the court’s decision but will not pardon his son, although he might consider commuting the sentence.
President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and his legal team responded to the multiple felony convictions doled against him in federal court on Tuesday by saying they would pursue all available legal challenges.
Jurors convicted Hunter Biden, 54, on all three felony counts, including lying to a federally licensed firearms dealer, making a false claim on a federal firearms background check form, and being in possession of an illegally obtained firearm. Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison for his crimes and up to $750,000 in fines.
“We are naturally disappointed by today’s verdict,” said Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden’s attorney. “We respect the jury process, and as we have done throughout this case, we will continue to vigorously pursue all the legal challenges available to Hunter. Through all he has been through in his recovery, including this trial, Hunter has felt grateful for and blessed by the love and support of his family.”
Hunter Biden responded to the charges in a separate statement: “I am more grateful today for the love and support I experienced this last week from Melissa, my family, my friends, and my community than I am disappointed by the outcome. Recovery is possible by the grace of God, and I am blessed to experience that gift one day at a time.”
President Biden pledged last week that he would accept the outcome of the verdict and would not pardon his son. After the verdict was announced, CNN noted that he may commute his son’s prison sentence.

“As I said last week, I am the President, but I am also a Dad,” the president said in a statement. “Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery.”

“As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal,” he continued. “Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that.”
The trial lasted a little more than a week. Witnesses included Hunter Biden’s ex-wife, a former girlfriend, and the gun store clerk who sold him the revolver.
The New York Times reported that after the verdict was read, Hunter Biden “stood with arms crossed” and “grimly” stared at the jury.
He was walked out of court by first lady Jill Biden and his wife Melissa Cohen Biden.
Hunter Biden also faces criminal charges in California related to alleged tax violations.
