Hunter Biden allegedly contacted individuals in Washington, D.C. to have the Ukrainian prosecutor handling Burisma fired, according to his former business partner’s testimony.
Hunter Biden Allegedly Pressured Ukrainian Government to Fire Prosecutor
In a stunning revelation, Hunter Biden’s former business associate, Devon Archer, testified before the House Oversight Committee that Biden personally intervened to have the Ukrainian prosecutor investigating his employer fired in 2015.
Archer, who served on the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma Holdings alongside Biden, made this explosive claim during his testimony. According to Fox News, Archer also revealed that Biden frequently contacted his father, Joe Biden, during business meetings to promote the Biden “brand.”
Pressure from Burisma Executives
Archer further alleged that executives at Burisma pressured Biden to seek assistance from Washington, D.C. in order to influence the Ukrainian government’s decision to fire prosecutor Viktor Shokin. At the time, Joe Biden was the vice president and oversaw the Obama administration’s Ukraine policy.
A source informed Fox News that Archer testified about Biden and two Burisma executives making calls regarding Shokin, although it remains unclear if Joe Biden was directly involved. Archer reportedly claimed that Biden later traveled to Ukraine and discussed reforms for the prosecutor’s office.
Confirmation and Denial
Representative Dan Goldman confirmed that Hunter Biden would frequently call his father on speakerphone during meetings but downplayed the significance of these conversations. Goldman stated that Joe Biden often didn’t recognize the people Hunter was with and would simply exchange pleasantries.
Joe Biden, however, has consistently distanced himself from his son’s foreign business dealings, stating in August 2019 that he never discussed these matters with Hunter or anyone else.
Investigation into Plea Deal
House Republicans have launched an investigation into a plea deal that Hunter Biden reached with the Department of Justice. The deal, which was ultimately rejected by a federal judge, would have allowed Biden to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax crimes and receive immunity for a range of other charges.
Federal judge Maryellen Noreika deemed the deal “not standard” and instructed prosecutors and Biden’s legal team to come up with a new agreement. The committee chairmen have expressed their concerns about the unusual nature of the deal and are seeking clarification from the Department of Justice.
