Reactions to Hunter Biden’s tax charges: Lawmakers, lawyer, and whistleblowers respond

Lawmakers and Whistleblowers ‌React to Hunter Biden’s Indictment

Following the indictment of Hunter Biden, the‍ son of President Joe Biden, on ⁣Thursday, lawmakers and⁣ whistleblowers have expressed‌ their thoughts on the matter.

IRS Whistleblowers Praise the ‌Indictment

In a joint statement obtained by the‍ Washington Examiner’s Reese Gorman, IRS whistleblowers ⁢Joseph Ziegler and Gary Shapley hailed⁣ the indictment as a “complete vindication” of ⁤their efforts.

“Eight months ago, we did something extraordinary – we risked our careers and⁤ reputations to bring the truth out of the shadows and into the light,” they said. “We faced continuous attacks, but we never ⁢wavered from what we shared with Congress. Today’s indictment is a testament to our thorough investigation and the consensus among investigators and prosecutors that there is sufficient evidence to charge Hunter Biden. However, this goes beyond ⁢our investigation or ⁣any individual; it’s⁣ about ensuring equal treatment of taxpayers under the law.”

House Oversight Chairman⁢ James Comer (R-KY), who has been actively investigating Biden, commended the bravery of the IRS whistleblowers.

Comer Applauds the Whistleblowers

“Two courageous IRS whistleblowers, Gary ‌Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, risked their careers to ⁤expose misconduct and politicization in the Hunter Biden criminal investigation,” ‌Comer stated. “The‌ Department of Justice was caught attempting to give Hunter Biden an ⁤unprecedented plea deal, and today’s ‌charges are a direct result of Mr. Shapley and Mr. Ziegler’s efforts to ensure equal treatment under the law for all Americans. We should all commend these men‌ for their courage in revealing the ⁢truth.”

Comer also highlighted that the ⁣whistleblowers revealed evidence that could implicate Joe⁤ Biden himself.

“The‌ House Oversight Committee’s investigation‍ into the Bidens’ influence peddling schemes has exposed how Joe Biden ⁤was aware of, participated in, and benefited from his family’s exploitation of the Biden ‌name. ⁣The corporate entities‍ linked to Hunter Biden, implicated⁢ in today’s indictments, funneled foreign funds into Joe Biden’s bank account. Unless U.S. Attorney Weiss investigates ⁢all those involved in the Bidens’ fraudulent activities, it will be evident that President Biden’s DOJ is protecting Hunter Biden ‍and the ‘big guy’.”

Representative Elise Stefanik (R-NY) used the opportunity to demand accountability from Hunter Biden if he fails ⁤to comply with Congress’s subpoena.

Stefanik Calls for Accountability

“If Hunter Biden refuses to cooperate with ‌a lawfully issued Congressional‌ subpoena, he ‌should face the full consequences of the law,” Stefanik asserted. “There cannot ⁢be a double standard where the Biden name grants special treatment while the rest of ⁣America abides by different rules.”

On the other hand, Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell,‌ argued that his client was being targeted solely because of his last name.

Attorney Claims Political Motives

“Based on the facts and the law, if Hunter’s‌ last name was anything other than Biden, the charges in Delaware, and now California, would not have been brought,” Lowell stated. He criticized U.S. Attorney ⁢Weiss for succumbing to Republican⁤ pressure and filing “unprecedented and unconstitutional” gun charges. ‌Lowell also emphasized that the investigation⁢ had been ongoing for ‌years without any new evidence, and Hunter had already paid ⁢his taxes in ‍full.

“I reached out to U.S. Attorney Weiss days ago to ⁤discuss this investigation, but instead, the response was media leaks about the filing of these charges today. ⁤All these matters will now be addressed in‍ various ‍courts, starting ⁢this Monday when we file motions ⁤to dismiss the initial questionable charges,” Lowell added.

How have Democratic lawmakers responded to the indictment of Hunter Biden?

⁢Of his son’s activities and may have even been involved,” Comer ‍said. “The evidence gathered by Mr. ⁢Shapley and⁢ Mr. Ziegler raises serious questions about Joe Biden’s ‌role and whether he used his position of power to protect his son. This indictment is just the ‌beginning, and we will ‍continue to pursue the truth and hold those responsible accountable.”

On the other ⁣side of the aisle,⁣‍ Democratic lawmakers have largely remained silent on the indictment. However, ⁣some have cautiously weighed in on the matter.

Democrats Respond With Caution

Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) expressed the need for due process and fairness in the legal proceedings.

“While it is⁢ important to let the judicial process play out and allow for a fair and impartial trial, it is concerning to see anyone, regardless of their ⁢political⁤ affiliation, face indictments,” Warner said. “We should uphold the principle of‍ innocent‍ until proven guilty and ensure that the legal ‍system ‍operates without political interference.”

Senator⁢ Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) echoed Warner’s sentiment, saying,⁤ “We must let the legal process unfold ⁤and trust in our justice system. It is important that we maintain the integrity ⁣of the process and avoid prejudging the outcome⁢ based on mere allegations.”

As the legal proceedings continue, the indictment of Hunter Biden ‌has sparked intense ‌political debate and scrutiny.⁤ Both Republicans and Democrats are closely watching the case and its potential implications for the Biden administration. While Republicans see the indictment as evidence of corruption and potential wrongdoing by‌ the Bidens, Democrats emphasize the need for ⁤due process and the presumption of ⁢innocence.‍ As the trial unfolds, the truth will hopefully be revealed, and justice will be served.
