Devon Archer, former business partner of Hunter Biden, arrives to provide testimony in investigation.
Devon Archer Testifies Before House Oversight Committee
Devon Archer, the former business partner of Hunter Biden, arrived on Capitol Hill on Monday to provide testimony before the House Oversight Committee. This highly anticipated testimony comes as Republicans continue to investigate Biden’s foreign business deals.
The Importance of Devon Archer’s Testimony
Archer’s testimony has been encouraged by multiple GOP leaders who believe he holds valuable insight into President Joe Biden’s alleged involvement in various business dealings during his time as vice president. Specifically, they are interested in his connections to the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, where Hunter Biden served on the board.
The head of Burisma has denied any contact with Joe Biden during his son’s employment, and Joe Biden himself has dismissed allegations of assisting his son with business dealings.
Archer’s testimony comes at a crucial time, as Hunter Biden’s plea deal with the Department of Justice recently fell apart. Originally facing tax violations, Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty and prosecutors recommended probation. However, the case took a turn when the DOJ sent a letter to Archer’s lawyer, urging him to serve his sentence in an unrelated tax fraud case. This move has raised accusations of obstruction from House members.
After canceling his deposition three times, Archer finally agreed to testify last week. He was subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee on June 12. Chairman James Comer emphasized the importance of Archer’s testimony, stating, “Mr. Archer was Hunter Biden’s business partner in a number of transactions involving foreign nationals and foreign companies.”
The current status of Hunter Biden and Archer’s relationship remains unclear, as they had been friends for decades.
