MTG and Comer urge DOJ to protect women ‘exploited’ by Hunter Biden.
House Oversight Chairman and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Question DOJ on Handling of Hunter Biden’s Alleged Sexual Exploitation
House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) have raised concerns about the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) handling of women who were allegedly sexually exploited by Hunter Biden. In a joint letter to Hilary Axam, the DOJ’s national human trafficking coordinator, and Kristina Rose, the DOJ’s director of the victims of crime, Comer and Greene demanded transparency regarding the department’s potential failure to uphold the rights of these victims.
Seeking Answers on DOJ’s Actions
The lawmakers expressed their concern over the DOJ’s alleged disregard for the victims who were sexually exploited by Hunter Biden. They pointed to congressional testimony indicating that Biden paid prostitutes, who are victims themselves, and even used these payments as tax expenses for one of his companies. The criminal conduct of Hunter Biden has caused harm to these women, and the lawmakers believe that the 2018 tax charge, for which Biden is pleading guilty, is connected to this harm.
The lawmakers have requested information about the DOJ’s investigation into whether Biden violated the Mann Act by paying for travel expenses that transported the women across state lines. They also accused the Justice Department of failing to uphold the rights guaranteed to victims under the Crime Victims’ Rights Act and Mandatory Victim Restitution Act by not pursuing more serious charges. It is important to note that prostitution is illegal in all states except Nevada.
Furthermore, the lawmakers expressed their concern about the limited scope of charges brought by the DOJ, despite the availability of evidence for more serious crimes. They believe that these charging decisions may directly impact the victims’ ability to obtain relief. By ignoring severe criminal charges and omitting relevant offense conduct, the DOJ has excluded the victims from the conversation.
Greene’s Dramatic Gesture
This move by Comer and Greene comes shortly after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene held up redacted nude photos of Hunter Biden and a woman during a House Oversight Committee hearing. Greene claimed that this image was proof of Biden’s violation of the Mann Act.
Biden has agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and has accepted the facts related to an illegal gun purchase, which will not result in any prison time. He is scheduled to appear in a federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, on Wednesday.
