Hunter Biden’s lawyer discredits IRS whistleblowers in a 10-page letter.

Hunter Biden’s Lawyer Pushes Back on Whistleblower Testimony

Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, has sent a letter to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) in response to whistleblower testimony from two IRS employees. Lowell claims that releasing the testimony is part of a misinformation campaign to harm his client and attack his father.

Allegations of Interference in the Investigation

The two whistleblowers, IRS supervisory agent Gary Shapley and an unnamed source, testified that the Department of Justice interfered with the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden. They claimed that the lead U.S. Attorney on the case was blocked from bringing charges in his preferred jurisdiction, denied special counsel status, and that the DOJ concealed information related to foreign bribery allegations involving Hunter Biden and then Vice-President Joe Biden.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has denied these allegations.

Discrediting the Whistleblowers

Lowell dismisses the testimonies as orchestrated mischaracterizations and incomplete facts. He refers to the whistleblowers as disgruntled agents who believe they know better than federal prosecutors. He also suggests that they may be using the whistleblower title to evade their own misconduct.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith responded, stating that it is not surprising that Hunter Biden’s attorneys are attempting to discredit the whistleblowers. He commends the whistleblowers for coming forward with allegations of misconduct and preferential treatment for Hunter Biden.

Challenging the WhatsApp Messages

Lowell also challenges the WhatsApp messages released by the committee, in which Hunter Biden mentions his father’s name and claims they were together to Chinese business associates in an attempt to secure money. While Lowell does not dispute the content of the messages, he criticizes the images posted on Twitter, stating that they are complete fakes.

Violation of Tax Laws and Federal Rules

Lowell accuses Smith of violating the spirit, if not the letter, of tax laws and federal rules governing investigations by releasing the whistleblowers’ testimony.

Smith counters this assertion, stating that the committee followed the appropriate legal steps to share the information with the rest of Congress. He also criticizes Lowell for not addressing key allegations from the whistleblowers.

The letter from Hunter Biden’s lawyer comes after the House Ways and Means, Judiciary, and Oversight Committees requested interviews with more than 13 employees of the IRS, DOJ, and the Secret Service to further investigate the alleged interference in the criminal case. Hunter Biden plans to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges.
