Hunter Biden sat in court on Wednesday and watched his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle and former romantic partner Zoe Kestan testify about his past drug use during his gun trial in Delaware.
Buhle, with whom Biden has three daughters, said she first learned of Biden’s drug use in 2015 and that she sometimes found drug paraphernalia in his car, including in 2018, according to reports from the courtroom.
Biden, a recovering addict, is facing felony charges over allegations he lied on a federal form about his drug use to purchase a gun in October 2018 and then illegally retained the gun for 11 days. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Buhle said the first time she realized Biden was doing drugs was when she found a crack pipe “on an ashtray on the side porch of our home” in the summer of 2015.
Buhle and Biden were married for more than two decades before they divorced in 2017.
Biden’s lead defense attorney Abbe Lowell asked Buhle during cross-examination if she had ever actually witnessed Biden doing drugs, and she replied that she had not.
When pressed on what days she saw the drug paraphernalia in his car, Buhle said she did “not recall the exact days.”
Buhle’s testimony was brief. Prosecutors then called Kestan to the stand.
Kestan said she met Biden in 2017 in New York at a gentleman’s club where she worked. She said the first time she met him was during an end-of-night private dance and that he was smoking something she “assumed” was crack cocaine.
“He was incredibly charming and charismatic, and I felt really safe around him,” Kestan said.

Kestan came off as far more candid than Buhle. She said that whenever she and Biden stayed together, Biden “would want to smoke as soon as he woke up.” She said he frequently smoked crack.
Kestan was still testifying into Wednesday afternoon. Prosecutors indicated during their opening statement this week that another of Hunter Biden’s exes, Hallie Biden, could be called to testify after Kestan.
