Cast and Crew of ‘The Chosen’ Forcing Me to Walk Away, Despite My Desire to Not Boycott.
Why “The Chosen” Boycott Controversy Matters
Boycotts have been a popular form of protest for decades, but their effectiveness has been debated. As a consumer, it can be difficult to keep all choices “pure” and aligned with personal values. However, recent backlash efforts against companies like Bud Light and Target have shown that boycotts can accomplish much.
When a “pride” flag was spotted on the set of “The Chosen,” a call for a boycott ensued. While some may argue that it’s just a movie set and individuals are entitled to their personal beliefs, the show’s actors made it clear that tolerance is a one-way street.
We’ve made it clear from the beginning we don’t have a religious or political litmus test for who can work on our show. I love our cast and crew, especially because even though they all come from different backgrounds and beliefs, they work their butts off for the show and the viewers. The show’s official stance on anything is to be found in the content of the show.
While the show’s creator, Dallas Jenkins, initially responded with a hands-off policy regarding contracted workers’ personal lives, he later addressed the controversy in a nearly 20-minute video. Jenkins stated that nothing has changed with the show and that it has always followed a hands-off policy regarding its contracted workers’ personal lives.
