I Testified Before Congress And Democrats Only Wanted To Yell At Me About Old Tweets
The Sad State of Congress: A Hearing on Green Tax Benefits Turns into a Twitter Witch Hunt
It was supposed to be a serious discussion about the effects of the Biden energy agenda on rural America, but instead, the House Ways and Means Committee spent hours reading through old tweets. As the founder of Power The Future, a national nonprofit organization that advocates for American energy jobs, I was disappointed in the complete lack of seriousness from the senior Democrat members.
While Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., convened the hearing to discuss the “green” tax benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the Democrats wasted time on scripted “gotcha” lines and bluster. It was all just a show.
But why were we even talking about tweets? The issue at hand, along with the $1.2 trillion in giveaways attached to it, is extremely urgent. We should have been discussing the green incentives in the IRA and whether they benefit Americans or the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The Minority Side of the Entire Hearing: Talk About Something Else
It’s no wonder that only one in five Americans approves of the job Congress is doing. Members rush into a meeting, deliver words they had not even seen until they open the binder, then rush off to a fundraiser or to MSNBC’s cameras in the Cannon Rotunda. Meanwhile, we are $31 trillion in debt, a rising China is launching spy balloons over our nation, the petrodollar has fallen, and members with decades of legislative experience tell their staff to focus on my social media. Weak and cheap.
It’s time to replace the rot with fresh blood. Remember that when it’s time to vote.
