ICE ⁣has captured 37-year-old Saulo Cardona Ferreira, a Brazilian fugitive who had been evading a prison sentence for allegedly raping a five-year-old child.

In 2019, Ferreira was convicted of multiple sexual assaults on the child and‌ was sentenced to 14 years in prison. However, he managed ⁤to flee the country before being apprehended.

During a stop in the luxurious vacation destination of Martha’s Vineyard, ICE’s Fugitive Operations Team successfully captured him.

According⁢ to an ICE spokesman, the agency launched an investigation and detained ‌Ferreira near his residence on November 14th after discovering his possible presence in the area through⁣ a law enforcement data review in September.

Todd Lyons, the Boston Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), also released a statement emphasizing the threat Ferreira posed to the residents of Martha’s Vineyard.

“He sexually assaulted a five-year-old child in his homeland and then ran from authorities when held accountable for his actions. ERO Boston will not⁢ allow such predators to threaten our residents. We will continue to apprehend and remove anyone who attempts to use our New England community as a refuge from justice,” Lyons stated.

The agency has not determined how Ferreira entered the U.S. illegally or when it occurred.

Ferreira is currently in custody, awaiting a court appearance before an immigration judge.
