The vehicle was captured on video passing the off-campus residence multiple times before returning and attempting to turn around. It was then seen speeding away from the area, heading towards Pullman, Washington, where the suspect attended Washington State University.
Additional footage from the WSU campus shows the same white Hyundai Elantra leaving the area and heading towards Moscow. Police were able to link the suspect to the vehicle through previous traffic stops and the suspect’s registration of the car in Washington shortly after the murders.
In a previous filing, the defense attorneys even suggested that the DNA found at the crime scene may have been planted by law enforcement.
“The State’s argument asks us to assume that our client placed the DNA on the sheath, disregarding the fact that the investigation involved numerous members of law enforcement and an undisclosed lab,” wrote the defense attorneys.
