If Anybody Should Pay Reparations For Slavery, It’s The Democrat Party
Each day more support is shown for the demand for reparations. Disney is joining the cause by weaving the subject of reparations to descendants of slaves into an animated storyline. “The Proud Family” The series will be available on the streaming platform of the company. The episode where the protagonists of the show sang a song called “The Biggest Controversy” was the one that generated most controversy. “Slaves Built This Country” They discover that the founding father of their community was a slave owner.
Cartoon children set their anger over racism and hardship to music when they sing “Slaves!” “made your families rich from the southern plantation, to the northern bankers, to the New England ship owners, the Founding Fathers, former presidents, current senators.” The song is catchy, but the children forget one important beneficiary of slavery. This was the Democratic Party, who can provide reparations.
There are many reasons to support or oppose reparations. The core argument for reparations is that the owners of slaves did not receive any form of compensation. Therefore, descendants of slaveowners owe financial reparations to descendants of their slaves. This would help alleviate income inequality, atone for America’s slavery and provide financial relief. “original sin.” Repatriations opponents argue that one group should not have to pay restitution to another group, even if they did not directly cause the damage. Reparations look more like this. “legal plunder,” a term coined by the French economist Frédéric Bastiat. Such an act “takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong.”
If reparations supporters are correct and some compensation must be paid, then it is obvious who the Democratic Party should pay: The fact is that the Democratic Party is inextricably linked to slavery, segregation. Andrew Jackson of Tennessee founded the Democratic Party. He was a slaveowner himself, as well as Martin Van Buren (a New Yorker who had at least one slave to exploit enslaved labor). Van Buren’s plans won the support of Southern politicians in return for their support for the Democratic Party. “peculiar institution” Slavery in plantation slave labor. These politicians were so common that they got a nickname: doughfaces. Their characters lack substance.
The pattern continued into the 20th century and through the Civil War. The southern U.S. Democratic politicians supported segregationalist policies which brutally violated the dignity and rights of African-Americans after the Civil War.
This history has led to the Democratic Party providing reparations for the victims, and not just the descendants of those who were politically exempt. You might still argue, “that was the Democratic Party of the mid-19th century. So much has changed since then that the current officeholders and politicians could not possibly bear any blame for what their forebears did.” True, it’s also true for American citizens.
The American people today aren’t directly responsible for segregation and Indian removal (also Van Buren) or a host other injustices, for which prominent Democrats demand reparations. The American people are also being forced to Pay More spending programs are needed, including the possibility of reparations. Is it fair to ask Americans to accept an additional tax hike to address a problem that was created by Democratic Party founders? This should be acknowledged.
While they admit institutional racism to be true, they ignore the fact they created it. Because it is a private entity, the Democratic Party has the most power to pay reparations for those who perpetuated slavery and segregation. If the Democratic Party acknowledged its wrongdoings and paid financial compensation to descendants of slaves it could remove reparations from the list of possible unreasonable and unwise government expansions. The Democratic Party’s extensive network of donors, connections, and local leaders could make it much easier to distribute reparations.
If the Democratic Party wants to make America great again, they should recognize its contributions in the promotion of them. The institutions responsible for these injustices should receive material aid to help black Americans make rightful claims. Democrats are the self-proclaimed “Democrats”. “party of the people,” This cultural and financial responsibility should be shared by the United States citizens, and not just the Americans.
