Biden should read banned books to kids if they’re harmless.

Joe Biden’s Pride Month Event Sparks Controversy Over “Banned Books”

This article includes graphic quotes from books that are being marketed to children.

President Joe Biden’s upcoming pride month event for families with LGBT kids at the White House South Lawn has caused quite a stir. During the event, he plans to appoint a “banned-book” czar whose job will be to compel local communities to stock their libraries with books that depict oral sex, rape, violence, and gender dysphoria.

“[B]ook banning erodes our democracy,” says White House Domestic Policy Adviser Neera Tanden, and “removes vital resources for student learning, and can contribute to stigma and isolation.”

But critics argue that these books are not appropriate for children and that parents should have the final say in what their kids read. To prove his critics wrong, Biden could read selected outtakes from some of these books to the prepubescent kids who show up to the event. Even better, he could do it on TV.

What’s in These “Banned Books”?

Some of the books that have been banned or challenged in schools include:

  • Lawn Boy, which describes 10-year-old boys performing oral sex on each other
  • Gender Queer, which features graphic sexual scenes and vulgar language
  • It Feels So Good To Be Yourself, which aims to normalize trendy pseudoscientific jargon and ideas among kindergarteners and first graders
  • Push, which features vulgar, graphic sexual scenes of incest and child rape

While some argue that these books are important resources for kids, others believe that they are not morally or educationally equivalent to a math lesson.

Moreover, many of the books on the list feature sexually explicit scenes and minority and gay characters, leading some to believe that so-called progressives are trying to teach kids that their immutable physical characteristics or sexuality or “gender expression” define them, rather than their achievements and deeds.

One of the ideas behind public schools was that they would break down ethnic and class barriers and build shared patriotic virtues and civic understanding. Instead, they are often used to trap kids and then indoctrinate them with leftist cultural attitudes.

Parents should have the right to decide when, how, or if their kids read about these topics.

Are These Books Really “Banned”?

While some refer to these books as “banned,” the reality is that they are not difficult to obtain. Parents can order any of the titles in mere minutes and have them delivered to their front door in days.

There are no “banned books.” There are just cultural imperialists, ideologues, and cowardly politicians trying to force their ideas on all children.
