Illegal immigrant charged in fatal wrong-way car crash that claims life of Missouri boy, 12

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Missouri when a 12-year-old boy lost his life in a horrific car accident caused by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela. The immigrant was driving on the wrong side of the highway at high speed, crashing into the boy’s family vehicle.
The illegal immigrant is now facing charges of manslaughter.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Edina Bracho, a 33-year-old Venezuelan immigrant, was driving in the wrong direction in Hazelwood, Missouri, exceeding the speed limit by 35 mph, when her minivan collided with a Jeep carrying 12-year-old Travis Wolfe and his parents, Timothy and Stephanie.
Travis was rushed to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where he was put on life support. Tragically, he succumbed to his severe injuries last week.
Travis’ parents were also hospitalized at Mercy Hospital with multiple broken bones, while Bracho’s two children were admitted to the same hospital in critical condition.
The Venezuelan immigrant is facing charges of first-degree involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of first-degree endangering a child, and one count of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. Her bail has been set at $500,000, payable only in cash.
A hearing is scheduled for April 8th.
“The defendant is here illegally from Venezuela,” according to cited court documents.
Hazelwood police Sgt. Scott Schnurbusch said that Bacho’s immigration status “did not play a part in our investigation.” However, “it was just difficult identifying all parties involved because we didn’t have documentation or identifications in the vehicle to try to figure out who the two juveniles and the suspect were,” he said.
“One thousand seven hundred feet is quite a big distance to travel at over 70 miles an hour on a 40-mile posted road. That’s a long way to travel in the wrong direction and not realize it,” he added.
