Influencer Lil Tay denies death rumors, blames hackers.
Reports of Lil Tay’s Death Were Greatly Exaggerated
The social media influencer, Lil Tay, has put an end to the rumors of her death. In a statement released on Thursday, she assured her followers that she and her brother are safe and alive. This comes after news reports circulated claiming that the 14-year-old and her brother had passed away. It turns out that her Instagram account was hacked, leading to the spread of false information.
In her statement, Lil Tay expressed her heartbreak and the trauma she experienced over the past 24 hours. She received countless heartbreaking phone calls from loved ones while trying to sort out the mess. The hacker used her compromised account to spread misinformation and rumors, even getting her name wrong. She clarified that her legal name is Tay Tian, not ‘Claire Hope’.
The original announcement on Instagram, which falsely claimed her death, has been taken down. It stated that her brother, Jason Tian, had also passed away, but provided no details.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing,” it read.
“We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain. This outcome was entirely unexpected and has left us all in shock.”
However, doubts about the authenticity of the death report were raised by some sources, including Lil Tay’s former manager, Henry Tsang.
While Lil Tay has millions of followers on Instagram, her status as an “influencer” is up for debate. According to her Wikipedia page, she gained fame online for a brief period in 2018, claiming to be the “youngest flexer of the century.”
According to Page Six, Lil Tay had not been active on Instagram since June 2018, around the time she was involved in a custody battle between her parents. The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. profiled her in 2018, describing her as a foul-mouthed social media child star who claimed to be a nine-year-old rapper living a luxurious life in Hollywood.
Despite the controversy surrounding her, Lil Tay’s death rumor may have been a manufactured attempt to regain attention. Some social media users speculated that it was a publicity stunt.
So Lil Tay is saying her social media was hacked and she is in fact not dead.
I’m thinking it’s a publicity stunt because i didn’t know who she was before this and i kinda wish i still didn’t pic.twitter.com/LwSkxkgZ2Q— V (@littlemykonos) August 10, 2023
The announcement denying her death did little to ease concerns about Lil Tay’s well-being, considering the previous reports of a bitter custody battle and rumors of abuse and exploitation by family members.
Rolling Stone reported that the death announcement coincided with the launch of a crypto project in Lil Tay’s name, led by her manager, Harry Tsang.
Rest assured, Lil Tay is alive and well, putting an end to the alarming false death announcement.
