Michael J. Fox shares sad health news: ‘I won’t reach 80’
Michael J. Fox Opens Up About His Battle with Parkinson’s Disease
Actor Michael J. Fox recently spoke out about his ongoing struggle with Parkinson’s disease, revealing that it’s becoming increasingly difficult as time goes on. Fox, who was diagnosed with the disease 30 years ago, doesn’t expect to live to see his 80th birthday.
The Challenges of Parkinson’s
During an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Fox spoke candidly about the challenges he faces on a daily basis. “Yeah, it’s banging on the door,” he admitted. “I’m not gonna lie. It’s gettin’ hard, it’s gettin’ harder. It’s gettin’ tougher. Every day it’s tougher.”
Aside from the physical symptoms of Parkinson’s, Fox has also faced a number of other health challenges in recent years. He’s suffered fractures in his hand, face, elbow, and arm, and he’s had a benign tumor removed from his spine. These complications have made it more difficult for him to walk and stay steady on his feet, which is a common issue for people with Parkinson’s.
The Importance of Parkinson’s Research
Despite the challenges he faces, Fox remains committed to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease. He founded The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) to help raise awareness and funds for research into potential treatments and cures.
“I know without fail that we are getting closer—day by day, year by year—to the breakthroughs that will make finding a cure inevitable,” Fox said in an interview with Neurology Now. “A lot of work lies ahead of us. But this is a responsibility we have, and we want people to know someone is trying to get this work done.”
