IMDb Users Battle As ‘She-Hulk: Attorney At Law’ Split Between 1-Star And 10-Star Reviews
Most of the terrible user reviews for the new Marvel series “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” are being blamed on the practice of “review bombing,” or multiple users leaving one-star reviews on a title they’ve never seen to drive the rating down. But for “She-Hulk,” the opposite appears to be happening too, with many users flooding review pages with perfect 10-star ratings.
For instance, IMDb shows that the Disney+ series, which debuted August 18, has just over 9,000 perfect 10-star ratings to balance out close to 11,000 1-star ratings. Meanwhile, people who had mixed feelings about the first episode were far fewer. Ratings in the 2 through 9-star categories were much smaller, with between 850 and 3,000 ratings only.
This brought the overall user rating to 5.4 stars. Many 1-star reviews on IMDb point out specific details that didn’t impress in “She-Hulk.”
One of the top reviews described the new series as “legitimately bad.”
“Bad writing, bad direction, mediocre sfx, and bad execution,” the reviewer wrote. “The way she gets her powers is both unsupportable, given the MCU back-history, and lazy writing. The cgi is Saturday morning cartoons.”
“The 4th wall breaks are awkward, rather than funny. It’s a real shame, because if there is one shining light, it is that Tatiana Maslany comes across as a very likeable [sic] talent, who is unfortunately saddled with this dumpster fire.”
“Marvel is just milking money and throwing content onto the screen with barely any thought or coherent structure,” another person agreed.
One of the top 10-star reviews described having different feelings.
“I do not understand what is it people are going berserk about,” the reviewer wrote. “Solid cgi, leads, acting and they are expanding on the hulk universe which i absolutely love. As good as I expected, can’t wait to see more. Hopefully people actually give it a chance and decide for themselves.”
“Perfect casting. Well written and so much fun to watch,” another one said.
“She-Hulk” has mixed critic reviews so far as well.
One “She-Hulk” clip went viral on social media depicting the main character Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) complaining to Hulk about getting cat-called and having to control her anger, which led many fans to mock the overall pro-feminist messaging of the show.
Marvel fans pointed out that Bruce Banner was forced to control his anger in much more serious situations, making Walters’ claims look weak. This came up in many of the negative reviews as well.
