Immigrants can now notify DHS via phone app if they self-deport

The Trump administration has launched a new mobile submission called “CBP Home” ‍aimed at allowing illegal immigrants in the U.S. to notify the federal government of their plans to self-deport. Announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the app features a button that users can click to alert ⁣U.S. Customs and Border‍ Protection of ⁣their intent to leave the country voluntarily. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized that⁤ the app provides a path for immigrants to return legally in the future, warning that those who do not comply will face ‍deportation without⁣ the chance to return.

The app is part of a larger $200 million advertising campaign, “Stay out and Leave Now,” designed ⁢to deter illegal immigration ⁢and encourage ‌those unlawfully in the ⁣U.S. to return home at their own expense. This initiative ⁢marks a shift ‍from the previous Biden administration’s “CBP‌ One” app, which facilitated legal entry for immigrants outside the ‍U.S. the DHS ⁣claims that the new app will help alleviate the strain on law enforcement‌ tasked with ⁤immigration arrests. Trump DHS debuts phone app for illegal immigrants to self-deport

The Trump administration has launched a phone app that allows illegal immigrants living in the United States to alert the federal government of plans to self-deport.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Monday morning the “CBP Home” app, which includes a feature that allows users to click a button to notify U.S. Customs and Border Protection of plans to leave the U.S.

“The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement. “If they don’t, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return.”

The creation of the new app is part of the Trump administration’s $200 million domestic and international ad campaign, “Stay Out and Leave Now.” The campaign discourages non-U.S. citizens from illegally entering the country and encourages those in the country unlawfully or waiting in the immigration court system to return to their home countries on their own dime.

The DHS said in its announcement that by pushing immigrants to leave the country, it reduces the burden on law enforcement, which has been tasked with arresting and deporting people by President Donald Trump.

The new app essentially replaces and reverses the immigration functions of the CBP One app, which was used by the Biden administration for immigrants outside the U.S. to apply for appointments or to fly into the country and then be allowed to remain for two years under the condition of parole. The Trump administration did away with the app’s immigration functions in January.

“The Biden administration exploited the CBP One app to allow more than 1 million aliens to illegally enter the United States,” Noem said. “With the launching of the CBP Home app, we are restoring integrity to our immigration system.”

CBP Home can be downloaded from Google Play and the Apple Store.
