Mayorkas’ Performance in Congress: A Shameful Stonewalling
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Dodges Questions on National Crises
During a Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs hearing, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas faced tough questions from Republican Senators about the numerous crises plaguing the nation under his leadership.
One of the key questions came from Senator Ron Johnson, who asked Mayorkas how many people the Biden administration has allowed into the country. Instead of providing a direct answer, Mayorkas blamed the “broken immigration system.”
Undeterred, Senator Johnson pressed for a number, to which Mayorkas continued to evade the question. Frustrated, Johnson revealed that approximately 6 million people have been let into the country, including 1.7 million individuals whose identities remain unknown.
But the open border and the increased threat of terrorism it brings weren’t the only topics Mayorkas avoided addressing. When Senator Josh Hawley questioned why Nejwa Ali, an openly antisemitic DHS employee with ties to the Palestine Liberation Organization, had not been fired for supporting Hamas’ attack on Israel, Mayorkas failed to provide a clear answer.
Despite being asked multiple times, Mayorkas refused to explain why Ali was still employed, claiming it was an ongoing personnel matter. Hawley expressed his disappointment with Mayorkas’ evasiveness, calling his performance “despicable.”
Mayorkas also refused to answer Hawley’s questions about whether Ali had admitted individuals into the country who shouldn’t be here or denied asylum to Jewish refugees. Despite having received written concerns beforehand, Mayorkas remained silent.
When Mayorkas claimed that the questioning was disrespectful to his heritage, Hawley requested to respond, but his request was denied by the Committee’s Democrat Chairman Gary Peters.
Mayorkas has faced threats of impeachment from Republicans for compromising national security and his willingness to lie to advance the Biden administration’s open border agenda. However, he has managed to evade accountability thus far.

This exchange between Mayorkas and Senator Johnson highlights a concerning lack of transparency from the Department of Homeland Security. At a time when the American people deserve clear and straightforward answers, Mayorkas’s evasive responses only add to the growing frustration and distrust surrounding the handling of national crises.
Another critical issue raised during the hearing was the alarming increase in illegal border crossings. Senator James Lankford questioned Mayorkas on the steps being taken to address this issue and secure the nation’s borders. Instead of providing a comprehensive plan, Mayorkas offered vague assurances and deflected blame onto the previous administration.
As the Secretary of Homeland Security, it is Mayorkas’s responsibility to address these crucial issues with transparency and urgency. Dodging questions and shifting blame only perpetuates the lack of progress in effectively dealing with crises such as immigration and border security.
The American people deserve leaders who are willing to take ownership of the problems plaguing the nation and work towards finding viable solutions. Mayorkas’s evasive tactics only serve to undermine the public’s trust in the Department of Homeland Security and the Biden administration as a whole.
Furthermore, Mayorkas’s failure to provide concrete numbers regarding the number of individuals allowed into the country raises questions about the administration’s handling of immigration policies. With millions of undocumented individuals already residing in the United States, it is crucial to have accurate information in order to implement appropriate measures and address any potential security concerns.
The lack of transparency displayed by Mayorkas during the hearing is deeply concerning and emphasizes the urgent need for accountability in leadership. It is essential for the Department of Homeland Security to be forthcoming with information, especially during a time when the nation is grappling with multiple crises.
The challenges facing the United States, including immigration, border security, and national crises, require significant attention and effective solutions. It is disheartening to witness a lack of clarity and avoidance of accountability from key officials like Secretary Mayorkas.
The American people and their representatives have a right to expect transparent, honest, and effective leadership from the Department of Homeland Security. Secretary Mayorkas’s evasion of questions and failure to provide direct answers undermines the trust necessary for the successful resolution of these pressing issues.
In conclusion, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s evasive responses during the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs hearing highlight a concerning lack of transparency and accountability. The American people deserve leaders who are willing to address national crises head-on and provide concrete solutions. Mayorkas’s evasiveness only adds to the frustration and undermines the trust necessary to effectively tackle the challenges facing the nation. It is imperative that the Department of Homeland Security commits to transparency, honesty, and effective leadership to restore public trust and ensure the security and wellbeing of the American people.
