Indian American immigrant runs for Kansas House seat as top GOP candidate.

Dr. Prasanth Reddy Challenges Incumbent Rep. Sharice Davids in Bid for Congress

Dr. Prasanth Reddy, a Kansas Republican, has thrown his hat into the ring, announcing his bid to unseat the Democratic congresswoman currently representing the 3rd Congressional District of the state. Reddy, an Indian American immigrant, physician, and military officer, is determined to defeat incumbent Rep. Sharice Davids (D-KS) in 2024.

A Passionate Pursuit of the American Dream

In a press release, Reddy expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunities America has provided him as an immigrant. “As an immigrant, I’ve lived the American dream, and I’ve spent my life trying to give back to the country that gave me everything,” he stated. “My whole life, I’ve run toward problems. Whether it was serving cancer patients or becoming a citizen and an officer in the Air Force Reserve after 9/11, I’ve always sought to be part of the solution.”

A Vulnerable Incumbent

Davids has caught the attention of Republicans due to her past anti-police remarks and voting record against policies aimed at preventing repeat offenses and empowering law enforcement. Local law enforcement officer Anderson County Sheriff Vern Valentine expressed frustration over a system that allows criminals to repeatedly reenter the community. “We have sent a person back already, and they made it back here in a month or so,” he lamented. “Now we have sent them back again, and I heard he was back in the area again.”

Despite Republican hopes, the Cook Political Report still rates the seat as “likely Democratic.”

A Political Outsider with a Vision

In his appeal to voters in the predominantly Democratic district, Reddy emphasizes his status as a political outsider. “I’m not a politician. I’ve never wanted to run for office,” he explains. “But the unique experiences I’ve had as an immigrant, a military officer, a physician, and a businessman put me in a position to help save our country. Extremist views cannot be the norm. Now is the time to act and to save the greatest country on Earth — the country that made a dream like mine possible.”

Davids’s campaign has not responded to requests for second-quarter fundraising numbers from the Washington Examiner. In the first quarter of 2023, she raised over $500,000, with the majority of contributions being $100 or less.
