Indictment of Trump ‘An Outrage,’ Sends ‘Terrible Message’ About US Justice System: Mike Pence
Former Vice President Mike Pence spoke out against the recent indictment of former President Donald Trump, calling it a “great disservice to the country” and a “political prosecution.”
In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, which aired on March 30, Pence expressed his concern about the indictment, which was handed down by a New York grand jury on that same day. He criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for pursuing charges after both Bragg’s predecessor and federal prosecutors declined to do so. Pence also expressed his belief that singling out Trump appears to be an example of “a two-tiered justice system,” which he believes the American people are fed up with.
Despite the fact that a grand jury, not Bragg, voted to indict Trump, Pence stated that the prosecutor is very influential in the process and “the threshold of proof is very low.” As an attorney himself, Pence called the prosecution “an outrage” and emphasized that there is a possibility that a judge will throw out the case before it goes to trial.
Pence also addressed the media’s “obsession” with Trump, saying that during his travels around the country, not a single citizen raised the issue of the probes Trump has been facing. He sees the media’s focus on Trump investigations as a distraction from the failed policies of the current Biden administration.
