“We grew up with a father who was extremely aggressive and controlling, resorting to physical violence and⁢ threats as part of our upbringing. We still⁢ carry ⁢the​ discomfort⁣ and ⁤fear⁣ that has been ingrained ​in us since childhood.

“Somehow, we accepted this treatment. We​ lived with it ⁣and believed we ⁢had moved on ‌in adulthood.⁣ But looking back, we now⁣ see how​ naive we ⁤were. ‌Two years ago, the same aggression and physical ⁣punishment resurfaced. ⁣It was the final straw⁣ that broke the camel’s back.”

Gjert Ingebrigtsen,‍ through his lawyer, responded: ​“The‌ allegations made against me are completely ‍unfounded.

“I⁢ have never resorted to violence against my‌ children. However, I⁣ do ⁤acknowledge that I have made mistakes as a father and‍ have⁢ been overly involved as their coach, a realization that has ‍come to me, albeit too late.”

The conflict reached its boiling point recently⁣ when⁤ Gjert was denied accreditation by the Norwegian Athletics Association⁢ (NFIF) for the World Indoor Championships in‌ Glasgow and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
