Insiders Concerned Case Against Trump Is Too Weak to Get a Conviction

An update on the case involving allegations of a payout to Stormy Daniels by Trump suggests that the grand jury may not be revisiting it for several weeks. This has led to concerns that the case may be falling apart. The Daily Beast has now reported that even attorneys who have worked on the case have questioned its strength, stating that it is based on weak charges, that was never viewed as a standalone criminal case.

The indictment that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is currently seeking against former President Donald Trump—over his payment to silence a porn star about their sexual affair—is based on a crime that was so flimsy it was never viewed as a standalone criminal case, according to three attorneys who have worked on that investigation.

The case forms just part of a larger investigation which former DA Cy Vance Jr. considered, and ultimately decided not to bring. This has led to suggestions that Bragg may have moved prematurely with the investigation.

The case is now being centred around Michael Cohen, but this has also raised concerns. Cohen’s record in admitting responsibility for past actions and his need for media attention have raised questions about his credibility as a witness.

Whilst Bragg’s goal is not to supercharge Trump’s campaign, the possibility of proceeding with a weak case that could cause Trump to walk free could inadvertently play into the former president’s favour.
