Texas AG appeals judge’s ruling on abortion ban as ‘excessively strict’.

Texas Attorney General Appeals Temporary Injunction Against ⁣Abortion Ban

Texas interim ⁤Attorney General,⁣ John Scott, has ⁤taken action to challenge the‍ temporary injunction placed on the state’s abortion ban. This move comes after State District Judge ⁤Jessica Mangrum ruled in favor of women who sued the state‌ over the absence⁣ of medical ⁢exemptions in the ban. Judge Mangrum issued‍ the temporary ⁢injunction on Friday, preventing the enforcement of the law in emergency situations where an‍ abortion is necessary to save the ‍life of the mother.

“While a district judge’s ruling attempted to block the state’s enforcement⁢ of Texas pro-life laws, this filing stays the ruling pending a decision by the Texas Supreme Court,” the appeals statement reads. “Texas pro-life laws ‌are in full effect. This judge’s ruling is not.”

According to spokesperson Paige Willey, the trial court’s injunction is ⁢ineffective, and the‌ status quo remains in effect. In an email to the Associated Press, Willey confirmed⁢ that the exemptions protecting the mother’s⁤ health are already in place. Scott, in his argument, emphasized the importance⁢ of⁢ safeguarding the mother’s well-being, stating that it is a moral principle ‍enshrined in the law. He cited ⁣specific circumstances where an abortion may be performed, such as ⁤when the pregnancy ⁤poses a life-threatening physical condition or a serious risk of⁣ substantial impairment ‍to a major‍ bodily function.

Under the‌ current Texas law, doctors found guilty of performing illegal ⁣abortions ⁣could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment ⁢and fines‌ of up to $100,000. The trial for this case is scheduled to commence ⁣on‍ March 25th.
