Introducing #WFBNFT: How Failure of CNN+ Got The Beacon on The Blockchain

It’s hard to fathom that anything productive came out of CNN+, the $300 million streaming project from failing news network CNN that went under in less than a month. But when one door closes, another door opens.

Confident their new venture would be a huge success, CNN+ executives minted several NFTs of the opening thirty seconds of programming. The attempt to sell video of the “historic moment” to “digital collectors” for $50 failed. Like CNN+ overestimated the number of subscribers it would get, the CNN+ marketing team overestimated demand for the NFT, and only a fraction of the NFTs were snagged.

But the fact that even one person was willing to fork over $50 for a 31-second video of CNN host Kate Bolduan got us noodlingwe can do better than that!

Here’s what we came up with:

And thanks to OpenSea, which claims to be the “world’s first and largest NFT marketplace,” this war-mongering Kate Upton blog is officially on the blockchain, whatever that is.

The Free Beacon’s first NFT features yours truly watching the CNN+ NFT from my office at our Arlington, Va., headquarters. Keen viewers will catch a glimpse of historic items, including the marriage certificate showing Ilhan Omar married her brother, sneakers worn by the failed Texas politician Wendy Davis, and a DVD copy of True Lies, a terrific 1994 James Cameron flick starring former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis.

If we can’t top the streaming network formerly known as CNN+, we’ll probably get off the blockchain. So get your digital wallets out and let the bidding begin!
