An investigation into the tragic passing of hockey player Adam Johnson is still ongoing
The South Yorkshire Police are still conducting an investigation into the incident that led to the death of 29-year-old hockey player Adam Johnson, two days after the tragic event.
“Our officers remain at the scene carrying out inquiries, and our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing,” authorities said on Monday.
“We would encourage the public to avoid speculation regarding the incident while we continue our enquiries,” the department continued.
Johnson, a resident of Hibbing on Minnesota’s Iron Range, was struck in the neck by opposing player Matt Petgrave’s skate blade as he was skating up the ice. Paramedics treated Johnson on the ice immediately following his injuries.
Reporters on the scene said that other players surrounded Johnson in a circle before 8,000 spectators were ordered to vacate the premises.
Johnson was then taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead, according to South Yorkshire Police.
Many online users who watched the footage taken during the incident at the arena pointed fingers at Petgrave and asserted that he should be arrested immediately, maintaining that his leg raise towards Johnson’s jugular was purposeful.
