Iowa GOP Sets Date for 2024 Caucus as Race Heats Up.

Iowa Republicans Set Date for First-in-the-Nation Caucus

Iowa Republicans have chosen January 15 as the date for their first-in-the-nation caucus, adding excitement to the race for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination.

This significant date falls on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal and state holiday, adding symbolic meaning to the event.

“We remain committed to maintaining Iowa’s cherished first-in-the-nation caucuses and look forward to holding a historic caucus in the coming months and defeating Joe Biden come November 2024,”

The race for the GOP presidential nomination includes a diverse group of candidates, such as former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, and more.

Recent polls show Trump leading the pack, closely followed by DeSantis. Both candidates have been actively campaigning in Iowa, with Trump making a powerful speech in Council Bluffs.

“No president has ever been close to me for farmers,”

DeSantis’s wife, Casey, has also launched the national campaign “Mamas for DeSantis” in Iowa, gaining support alongside Governor Kim Reynolds.

Democrats Face Complications in Election Schedule

The 2024 election schedule for the Democrats, with President Joe Biden being challenged by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson, is proving to be more complex.

After a chaotic 2020 caucus, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) made South Carolina their first voting state, prioritizing non-white voters. Iowa Democrats have proposed holding their nominating contest on January 15, before the South Carolina primary, with potential concessions.

“No matter what, Iowa Democrats are committed to moving forward with the most inclusive caucus process in Iowa’s history,”

Iowa Democratic Chairwoman Rita Hart expressed her commitment to an inclusive process, despite not having input on the chosen date. She emphasized the party’s dedication to what is best for Democrats, Iowa, and democracy.

New Hampshire Democrats may challenge the DNC’s changes, as state law requires them to hold the first primary. It’s important to note that primaries are run by state and local governments, while caucuses are run by political parties.
