Iran Sends Warship to Red Sea Following US Attack on Houthi Boats
Amid escalating tensions, Iran has dispatched a warship to the Red Sea, just a day after the United States announced its successful destruction of “Iranian-backed Houthi small boats” that were attempting to launch an attack on a shipping vessel.
The warship made its way through the Bab el-Mandeb strait and entered the Red Sea on Monday, as reported by Iranian state media. This move has the potential to further heighten tensions in one of the world’s crucial shipping routes.
US Central Command’s Response
The revelation of Iran’s action comes shortly after US Central Command revealed its successful elimination of three Houthi boats, originating from Yemen-controlled areas, that were trying to attack the Maersk Hangzhou in the southern part of the Red Sea on Sunday. The boats came within 20 meters of the vessel and attempted to board it, firing crew served and small arms weapons.
According to US Central Command, three out of the four small boats were neutralized, resulting in the death of all crew members on board the Houthi vessels. The fourth boat managed to escape, and fortunately, no US personnel or equipment sustained any damage during the attacks.
