Iran threatens ‘severe consequences’ if Israel continues to combat Hamas.
Iran Warns of “Harsh Consequences” if Attacks on Gaza Continue
In a strong statement, Iran’s foreign minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, issued a warning on Wednesday regarding the ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that there would be severe repercussions if the assaults persist. Iran, a staunch supporter of Hamas in Gaza and various militias in the region, has consistently voiced its concerns.
“If an immediate ceasefire doesn’t take place in Gaza Strip and the rapid attacks by U.S. and Zionist Regime continue, then the consequences would be harsh,” he declared during a press conference in Ankara.
The United States and Israel have responded to what they claim were unprovoked attacks by Iranian-backed militias in the wider region. These incidents have raised fears of a potential escalation of the Gaza conflict into a larger-scale war.
During the joint news conference with his Turkish counterpart, Amirabdollahian refrained from disclosing specific details about Iran’s plans. However, he reiterated Iran’s support for Hamas and condemned Israel’s subsequent bombardment of Gaza.
Amirabdollahian also mentioned that an upcoming visit to Turkey by Iran’s president, Ebrahim Raisi, is currently being arranged.
