Iranian Attacks on U.S. and Its Allies Hit Record Highs
According to a congressional report obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, Iranian attacks against the United States and its allies have hit record highs. This is due to the Biden administration’s relaxation of sanctions on the country. In 2021, Iran launched a record-breaking 750 attacks on American personnel and allies, with more than 600 in 2022. Tehran has been expanding its global terrorist enterprise through hundreds of drone strikes, ballistic missiles, and rocket launches, which show a stronger Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the country’s paramilitary fighting force, than ever before.
The report aims to increase international pressure on the IRGC and further isolate Tehran, led by Rep. Claudia Tenney (R., N.Y.), who assembled it with the help of former high-ranking U.S. officials. They are urging American allies to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization, as the United States did in 2019.
The findings suggest that the Biden administration’s efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal have made Tehran’s global terrorism more destructive, resulting in the IRGC stationing nearly 650,000 troops across all of its sectors, with a budget of around $5 billion annually. If the U.S. administration negotiates a partial return to the nuclear deal, it is likely that the IRGC will emerge as a top beneficiary, as per new reports.
Rep. Claudia Tenney is introducing a congressional resolution that urges “the European Union to expeditiously designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.” Lawmakers in the Republican-controlled House are likely to support the resolution along with bipartisan sanctions on Iran’s senior leadership for human rights crimes. They aim to crack down on the Tehran-Moscow military pipeline, with some pushing European allies to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
According to the report, the IRGC is responsible for the deaths of more than 600 U.S. service members, mainly in Iraq. The IRGC also provides weapons and training to the leading terror groups in the region, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthi rebels in Yemen. IRGC cells are active in America, Europe, and South America, and it has been involved in virtually every conflict in the Middle East, from Syria and Lebanon to Yemen and Iraq. The report details the IRGC’s recent efforts to assassinate U.S. officials and kidnap dissidents, including those residing in America. The IRGC is a global threat to peace and security, not only to the Iranian people or just the people of the Middle East.
Moreover, the IRGC is leading the effort to share military technology for use in Russia’s war against Ukraine, providing Russia with ballistic missiles for its war in Ukraine, along with the suppression of anti-regime protests by arresting more than 19,000 Iranians and killing at least 529, including 71 children.
