Iranian-backed terrorists persist in targeting cargo ships in the Red Sea while Biden remains inactive
Iranian-backed Houthi Terrorists Continue to Disrupt International Commerce
In a series of brazen attacks, Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists based in Yemen have once again targeted large shipping vessels passing through the Red Sea, causing significant disruptions to international commerce.
The latest attacks, which occurred on Friday, are just the latest in a string of relentless assaults that have plagued the region in recent weeks. The Houthis have specifically targeted ships with any perceived ties to Israel, intensifying their efforts to undermine stability in the area.
Early Friday morning, the Motor Vessel MSC ALANYA, a Liberian flagged vessel, received a threatening communication from Houthi forces while traveling north in the southern part of the Red Sea. Despite the absence of U.S. ships in the vicinity, American forces maintained direct contact with the vessel, ensuring its safe passage as it continued northward.
However, just a couple of hours later, disaster struck. A UAV launched from Houthi-held territory struck the Liberian flagged Motor Vessel AL JASRAH as it was traveling south in the Red Sea. The crew immediately sent out a distress signal, reporting a fire caused by the attack.
Approximately four hours later, Houthi forces launched two ballistic missiles towards the international shipping lanes in the Bab el-Mandeb strait. One of these missiles hit the Liberian flagged MV PALATIUM 3, resulting in another distress call and reports of a blazing fire. The USS MASON promptly responded to the emergency, while the other missile fortunately missed its intended target.
The lack of response from President Joe Biden has left U.S. officials increasingly frustrated. With a focus on not upsetting Iran, Biden even delisted the Houthis from the official terrorist list shortly after taking office, a decision that has faced significant backlash.

What role does Iran play in supporting and enabling the Houthi rebels, and how does this jeopardize regional stability and global trade?
International commerce. These acts of terrorism not only pose a threat to global trade but also highlight Iran’s continued support for illegitimate militant groups operating in the region.
Over the past few years, the Houthi rebels, who are known for their violent insurgency in Yemen, have consistently demonstrated their ability to disrupt maritime traffic in the Red Sea. With strategic locations along the Yemeni coast, the Houthis have been able to carry out attacks on commercial vessels passing through one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.
The recent attacks on international shipping vessels serve as a stark reminder of the Houthi rebels’ capabilities and their determination to undermine stability in the region. One such attack involved the targeting of a Saudi Arabian oil tanker, causing significant damage and temporarily halting its operations. This incident alone underscores the potential for serious consequences if these acts of terrorism are left unchecked.
Iran’s role in enabling and supporting the Houthi rebels cannot be ignored. The Iranian regime has long been accused of arming and financing militant groups in the Middle East, including the Houthi rebels. By providing them with weaponry and training, Iran empowers these terrorists to carry out their disruptive actions, which in turn threatens international commerce and regional stability.
The international community must recognize the gravity of this situation and take decisive action against Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists. The disruption caused by these attacks not only impacts global commerce but also puts the lives of countless seafarers at risk. Furthermore, the continued support provided by Iran to these terrorists undermines efforts to restore peace and stability in Yemen.
Efforts to counter Iranian-backed Houthi terrorism should include increased maritime security measures in the Red Sea. Navies from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United States have played a crucial role in safeguarding shipping lanes in the region. However, a comprehensive approach is required that involves cooperative efforts and intelligence sharing among nations.
Moreover, diplomatic and economic pressure must be exerted on Iran to cease its support for terrorist activities in the region. Through sanctions and global condemnation, the international community can send a clear message to Iran that its actions will not be tolerated.
It is crucial for the international community to unite and confront the threat posed by Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists. By doing so, not only can we protect global commerce and ensure the safety of maritime traffic, but we can also send a strong message to Iran that its sponsorship of terrorism will have serious consequences. Only through collective action can we hope to put an end to the disruptions caused by these terrorist groups and work towards a more secure and peaceful future.
